That’s right folks…..the most grueling single-champion sporting event in the world….the World Series of Poker $10,000 NL Hold Em Championship…..is underway in Las Vegas. the gasman will be one of the 6,000 or so who ponied up $10,000 for a chance at poker immortality….and a first place price of around $10 mil.

(many thanks to our sponsor….Glendale Kia….for paying our way into the WSOP)

Anyway…although it’s impossible to pick a winner in this thing…..we believe Poker Pro Joe Sebok will prevail….although we wouldn’t mind if our Poker Buddy Shannon Elizabeth went deep. (and we DO mean DEEP)

Bryn Mawr, PA’s own Beth Shaak took Shankar Pillai (no…really….that’s his name……really) to the limit yesterday in Event #28 at the World Series of Poker and just missed getting her first WSOP bracelet. I’m sure it’s a bummer to get that close….but Beth did win $328,683. Big money.

Here’s the final hand of the tournament:

Pillai raised to $180,000 and Shak reraised $550,000 more. Pillai made the call and the flop came 10-8-3 and as she had done many times before, opened all in. This put Pilli deep into the tank and he took over a minute to make his decision. The arena was as quiet as we have seen it, then Pilli made the call. Shaks section burst into applause when she tabled K8, but the applause was quickly drowned by the ruckus of Pillai supporters when his A8 were announced by tournament director Sam Minutello. The turn brought the 7 and the river the 2, shipping Pillai the pot and the tournament.

PokerBabies at the World Series of Poker

Who says poker isn’t a sport? It’s just like football….you spend hours toiling amongst overweight sweaty guys.

Fortunately for the gasman…women are becoming a bigger part of the sport. Here’s an update from the World Series of Poker on some of our favorite PokerBabes:

The all-time poker playing future missus gasman, chantel mcnulty took a break from the WSOP to play in the Mandalay Bay WPT event where she finished 17th and cashed for $17,490 in one of the preliminary events. She’s just fucking gorgeous….and a sharp poker player.

Philly-gal Beth Shak is in line for a large payday…she’s currently in 2nd place with 10 to go in Event #28 at the WSOP. If she holds second…she’ll win over $300,000. She’s mighty FIERCE either way.

Hollywood’n Shannon Elizabeth is looking fine…and playing some decent poker. She cashed for $3,828 in event #25 at the WSOP. Doesn’t sound all that great. Two things. a.) take a look at her. b.) she had to beat several thousand players to finish 150th.

CrazySexyHot Jennifer Tilly came into the WSOP on a roll and has struggled a bit…although she did take 50th place in Event 22. Good for $12,653.
