no, we’re not haters. we just think it shows remarkably poor asset management skills to slap a million dollar pool on a two million dollar house, as gil arenas is doing. the problem with a million dollar pool? it
desensitizes one to costs. a dude who spends that much on a pool starts thinking he needs a 20mil jet. and that’s when the shit gets out of hand and the specter of brokeness appears.
this grotto style pool looks like it was built for fornication. pools that are built for fornication only lead to bad things: date rape legal hassles, posses floating face down and dieing, gobs of semen in the pool water.
rick reilly of espn the mag recently wrote an article which doled out free advice about how to go broke as an athlete. even with his 112mil contract, arenas would do well to read it.
nice pool, though, gil.

several west virginia university hoops stars escaped from the village, fled to the big city of pittsburgh and allegedly took part in baseball, booze and mixed martial arts.
according to the AP:
Two West Virginia University basketball players were charged with scuffling with police and underage drinking after a fight at a Pittsburgh Pirates game.
Joe Mazzulla and Cameron Thoroughman were arrested Monday at PNC Park, where the Pirates were playing the Colorado Rockies. The two were in custody and awaiting arraignment Tuesday.
we’ve all been busted for underage drinking. illegal drug use. fornicating in public using sexual positions on females that are still illegal in alabama.
but we ain’t never slugged a police officer. that’s just plain stupid.
ooops. forgot these dudes are from west virginia.

The WNBA, fresh from it’s first brawl and Rick Mahorn beating, is trying to keep the momentum and their place in the mainstream sports news by signing 50 year old Nancy Lieberman to a contract. I’m certain she could score a few points on us (not the gasman, he’s a goaltender) but it’s a whole new market the WNBA hasn’t thought. Games will soon be played in retirement homes so crowds can double in size.

here’s my problem with eva longoria’s shirt. your the star of a major television hit. you’re a reknown fame whore. your spouse is an internationally recognized professional basketball player. you declare your need for more privacy and yet you wear a clingy top with a “hey look at me” message.

adding to the absurdity, you trot your hubby to a restaurant, the toasty bakery cafe, which is situated on one of the busiest corners of west hollywood. a spot that looks like this:

madam, please. Me thinks thou doest protest too much!
on a positive note, tony p. is a decent tipper….forking over a twenty to the valet dude after just an hour.

last year this time we made the prediction that yi jianlian would never play a minute of basketball for the milwaukee bucks.
(we predicted he would be traded to philadelphia or the la clippers before the season began)
we were only off by a year. the liberation of yi is complete. he’s been traded to the new jersey nets.
whatever!

we can’t help it. we just can’t stop writing the wang headlines. this actually two stories in one…both having to do with yanks and wang.
the first is about injured yankees pitcher chien-mien wang who will be sidelined with injury until september.
the second part of this story is about an obscure mormon lecture on the joys evils of masturbation. here’s an excerpt:
There is; however, something you should not do. Sometimes a young man does not understand. Perhaps he is encouraged by unwise or unworthy companions to tamper with that factory. He might fondle himself and open that release valve. This you shouldn’t do, for if you do that, the little factory will speed up. You will then be tempted again and again to release it. You can quickly be subjected to a habit, one that is not worthy, one that will leave you feeling depressed and feeling guilty. Resist that temptation. Do not be guilty of tampering or playing with this sacred power of creation. Keep it in reserve for the time when it can be righteously employed.
you can read the rest of this beanshrinking speech right here.
