hoping to bolster a starting rotation with a horrendous 4.40 era, the phillies are considering trading their few good minor league prospects for a starting pitcher with a 5.23 era!!!

according to si.com, the phillies are considering a deal for enigmatic starter a.j. burnett. after sending OUR OWN enigmatic starter (brett myers) down to the minor leagues last week…..just what we need is a bookend for him.
even better news is that burnett has the world’s worst contract. if he sucks, he can stay for two more years at $12 million per (holy adam eaton, batman!) if he kicks ass the rest of the season, he has the right to opt out of his contract and walk. sacre bleu!

The enigmatic right-hander was both brilliant and brutal versus the Baltimore Orioles, dominating early before fading dramatically in a 9-8 Toronto Blue Jays victory.
Burnett (9-8) gave up seven runs, six of them in a dreadful sixth he could not escape. Staked to an 8-1 lead, he nearly gave it all back before he was mercifully pulled after Adam Jones’ three-run blast made it a one-run game.

take a look at hanley ramirez PHANTOM sweep of the bag last night. the play didn’t really factor into the result…..dan uggla made sure of that…but it’s annoying nonetheless.
what? you’re going to tell us that the phantom sweep on double plays is routine? we know this. it’s not our first ballgame, sparky. but this was a most heinous exaggeration of that policy.
